Kai Tak Sports Park, Hong Kong
Kai Tak Sports Park is located in the Kai Tak Development Area in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is one of the largest and most important integrated sports projects in Hong Kong in recent years and was officially opened in 2025. The entire park covers an area of approximately 28 hectares and is positioned as a landmark that combines sports events, cultural activities, and public recreation.
Main Facilities include:
Main Stadium: Accommodates approximately 50,000 spectators, mainly used for football, rugby matches, and large-scale concerts
Indoor Sports Arena: Approximately 10,000 seats, capable of hosting various indoor sports and events
Youth Sports Ground: Approximately 5,000 seats, designed for community use and training purposes
Large Public Open Space (approximately 14 hectares) for leisure and recreational activities
Design Concept:
The design of the main stadium is inspired by the “Pearl of the Orient.” Its overall form is dynamic and modern, emphasizing visual connections with the urban environment and Victoria Harbour.
The façade of the main stadium extensively uses Solid Aluminium Panels, which is one of the core elements of the architectural design.
1. Façade Composition
The exterior walls are composed of approximately 27,000 Solid Aluminium Panels
A modular assembly method is used to create a complex and fluid surface
The panels are mostly triangular and other geometric shapes, creating rich visual layers
2. Surface Treatment and Visual Effects
The aluminium panels are coated with special finishes (such as pearlescent coating)
They display changing colors under different lighting conditions (e.g., blue, purple, silver)
This gives the building dynamic lighting and shadow effects both day and night
3. Material and Performance Advantages
Lightweight and high strength: Reduces structural load
Strong weather resistance: Resistant to wind, rain, and corrosion
Low maintenance: The surface resists dust accumulation and reduces cleaning costs
High formability: Suitable for complex curved surfaces and irregular structures
4. Construction and Technical Application
Designed and installed with the support of BIM (Building Information Modeling)
Precise control over the position and angle of each Solid Aluminium Panel
Improves construction efficiency and reduces installation errors
